Petrol Subsidy Status Check by CNIC: The Confirmation SMS Is the Check

If you have registered and now want to do a petrol subsidy status check by CNIC, it is natural to look for a code to send, or a page where you type in your CNIC and see a result.
That search is where people get misled. Some websites invent status and BALANCE codes that were never issued for this scheme. Others ask you to type your CNIC into an unofficial page. Neither is official — and the second puts your personal information at risk.
This guide explains what exists, what does not, and how to read the evidence you already have: the reply to your REG message.
Is there an official status check code?
No.
Official scheme material describes only two SMS commands sent to 9771:
- REG — to register
- TOK — to request a token
There is no official status-check command and no official BALANCE command (official scheme material describes only REG and TOK; a competitor guide, mkb-punjab.org.pk, states the same point honestly on its dedicated status-check page).
That rules out three things:
- Any special word a site tells you to send to 9771 to see your status — it did not come from the official scheme material.
- Any BALANCE or similar balance-check command — no such official command is described.
- Any page asking you to enter your CNIC to “check status” — that is not an official channel. The only official channels named here are the 9771 SMS shortcode and the official portal, pmfuelrelief.pk.
Do not go looking for a third code. There are two commands, and status is not one of them.
For scheme context, see PM Fuel Relief Scheme 2026 and petrol relief in Pakistan.
So how do you check your status?
You read the reply to your REG message.
Registration is done by sending a REG SMS to 9771 with your CNIC, vehicle number, province code and registration date (official scheme mechanic, press-reported). Registration is free (press-reported — Al Jazeera, 7 October 2026). If you have not registered yet, start with the step-by-step petrol subsidy registration guide or the PM petrol subsidy registration guide, and check the 9771 province code before you send anything.
Once you have sent REG, your application standing is read from what comes back:
Your situation → what it means → what to do
| Your situation | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You received a confirmation reply after REG | That reply itself is your confirmation. It is the evidence the registration step produced — there is no second, separate status result to go and fetch. | Keep the reply. Move to the token stage only when you need a token, using TOK — see the 9771 token guide. |
| You received no reply at all | No status has been established from that attempt. Do not read silence as approval, and do not read it as rejection either — a specific cause for a missing reply is unverified in the sources used for this article. | Treat it first as an SMS delivery problem. Work through 9771 SMS not working and 9771 SMS not received before re-sending anything. |
| You received a failure or error reply | That attempt did not go through as a successful registration. The exact wording of failure replies, and what any one wording proves about your case, is unverified — this article does not invent reply texts. | Work through the registration-error fixes in 9771 SMS registration failed, then check the specific issue that matches your case below. |
That table is deliberately narrow. It promises no reply timeline, because no source used here gives one, and it quotes no example messages, because no source supplies their exact text. If a website fills those gaps with precise wording and timings, ask where it got them.
If you got a failure reply, check the likely fix — not a status code
A failure reply is fixed by correcting the registration attempt, not by checking status again:
- CNIC not matching for the fuel subsidy — if the details in your REG message do not match
- SIM not registered on your CNIC — if the SIM you sent from is the problem
- Vehicle already registered on 9771 — if the vehicle in your message is already on the system
- Wrong vehicle number in your 9771 SMS — if a detail in the vehicle number was entered incorrectly

Registration status is not the same as a token
One common confusion: people who have registered go looking for a status check when they actually need the next step. REG and TOK do different jobs (official):
- REG is the registration command. Its reply is where your registration standing comes from.
- TOK is the token-request command. Problems at this stage are token problems, not registration-status problems.
So if you are already registered and a token has not arrived, a “status check” will not help you. Use petrol token not received instead, plus the 9771 token guide and the 9771 weekly token guide.
The same applies for bikes and rickshaws: the registration reply is still the check — see bike petrol subsidy and rickshaw petrol subsidy via 9771.
Never enter your CNIC on a status-check website
This is the part of a petrol subsidy status check by CNIC search that can actually harm you.
Scammers are exploiting this scheme. Fake calls and messages connected to it have been reported (press-reported — ProPakistani, 14 September 2026). The petroleum minister warned citizens to pay no one for registration or tokens (press-reported — Business Recorder, ~20 September 2026). Registration is free (press-reported — Al Jazeera, 7 October 2026), so anyone charging you for it, for a token, or for a “status check” is asking for money the scheme does not charge.
An unofficial website or app that asks you to “enter CNIC to check status” is a privacy risk:
- Your CNIC is personal information, and the minister’s warning was not to share personal details with unauthorised people (press-reported — Business Recorder, ~20 September 2026).
- No official CNIC-lookup step is described in the official scheme material used here — only REG and TOK by SMS to 9771 (official).
- The only official channels named here are the 9771 SMS shortcode and pmfuelrelief.pk.
Before you trust any message, page or caller, read our 9771 petrol subsidy scam guide. And if you have a genuine problem that the troubleshooting guides do not solve, use the fuel subsidy complaint route instead of paying a stranger or handing your CNIC to a website.

Frequently asked questions
What is the code for a petrol subsidy status check by CNIC?
There is none. Official scheme material describes only two SMS commands to 9771: REG to register and TOK to request a token (official). There is no official status-check command and no official BALANCE command. A competitor guide, mkb-punjab.org.pk, states the same point honestly on its dedicated status-check page.
How do I know if my 9771 registration worked?
From the reply SMS to your REG message. A confirmation reply is the confirmation — there is no separate status result to fetch afterwards. No reply means no status was established from that attempt; a failure or error reply means that attempt did not go through. See the table above for what to do in each case.
A website says I should SMS BALANCE to 9771. Should I?
No. No official BALANCE command is described in official scheme material (official; also stated by mkb-punjab.org.pk on its status-check page). Codes like this are invented by low-quality websites. Do not present them to family members as official, and do not pay anyone who offers to use one for you — registration is free (press-reported — Al Jazeera, 7 October 2026).
Can I check my status by entering my CNIC on a website?
Not through any official channel described in the sources for this article. The only official channels named here are the 9771 SMS shortcode and pmfuelrelief.pk (official). Unofficial sites and apps asking you to enter your CNIC to check status are a privacy risk — never enter your CNIC on them. Scammers are exploiting the scheme through fake calls and messages (press-reported — ProPakistani, 14 September 2026).
I sent REG and got no reply. Am I rejected?
That conclusion is unverified — no source used for this article says a missing reply means rejection, and this article does not invent a reply timeline. Treat no reply first as an SMS delivery problem: see 9771 SMS not working and 9771 SMS not received.
I am registered but my token has not come. Is that a status problem?
No — it is a token-stage problem. REG covers registration and TOK covers token requests (official), so the two stages are checked and fixed separately. Start with petrol token not received and the 9771 token guide.
