9771 Weekly Token Explained: How the Rs500 Token Works Every 7 Days

At a glance

  • Two- and three-wheelers now get a flat Rs500 token every week, capped at four tokens a month (press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026).
  • The old 5-litre minimum purchase is scrapped, and the vehicle no longer has to be registered in your own name (ownership requirement dropped Sept 20 — press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026).
  • A second token cannot be generated until the active token is consumed or expires (press-reported, Express News via video description).
  • At the petrol price of Rs386.30/L effective 17–19 October 2026, a Rs500 token covers about 1.29 litres at full price (arithmetic).

What the 9771 weekly token is

Under the federal PM Fuel Relief Scheme, registered two- and three-wheelers (motorbikes, scooters, rickshaws) receive a Rs500 fuel token every 7 days, capped at four tokens per month (press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026).

This replaced the scheme’s original mechanics — earlier coverage described relief as Rs100 per litre in 5-litre blocks. The October revision switched bikes to a flat Rs500 weekly token with no minimum purchase, so you can fill any amount and still use the token (press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026; Daily Sabah, ~Oct 5, 2026).

For the original token mechanics and the general registration flow, see our 9771 token guide and the Rs100 petrol subsidy explainer.

Cars under 800cc get a different deal: Rs1,000 every 10 days, capped at three tokens a month (press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026) — this article covers the bike/rickshaw weekly token only.

What changed in October 2026

Two rule changes in early October made the scheme simpler for riders:

  • 5-litre minimum purchase scrapped. You no longer have to buy at least 5 litres to use a token — any fill amount qualifies (press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026; Daily Sabah, ~Oct 5, 2026).
  • Ownership requirement dropped on Sept 20. Riders no longer need the vehicle registered in their own name, as long as they can supply the exact registration date shown on the documents (press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026).

Eligibility covers vehicles registered on or after Jan 1, 2006 — roughly 20 years old and newer (press-reported, Daily Sabah, ~Oct 5, 2026).

How much fuel does Rs500 cover at today’s price?

The short answer depends on the pump price on the day you fill, because prices are revised daily (press-reported that daily revision began 17 July 2026). Here is the worked maths.

Worked example (press-reported, Gulf News, ~Oct 5, 2026)

Gulf News gave this example from around Oct 5: a rider buying 2 litres costing Rs780 pays only Rs280 after the Rs500 token is applied. (That implies a pump price of ~Rs390/L at the time — prices have since moved.)

At today’s price (arithmetic)

ItemValueBasis
Petrol price (17–19 October 2026)Rs386.30/Lcontext per task brief
Weekly token valueRs500press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026
Token covers at full price≈ 1.29 litres (500 ÷ 386.30)arithmetic
2 litres at today’s priceRs772.60arithmetic
You pay after the token≈ Rs272.60arithmetic

So a Rs500 token covers roughly 1.29 litres at full pump price (arithmetic). On a typical small fill of around 2 litres, expect to pay roughly Rs273 out of pocket at the current price (arithmetic) — the exact figure changes with each daily price revision. When your next token unlocks

The token runs on a weekly cycle: once you’ve received your token, you wait for the next 7-day cycle rather than trying to generate another one immediately (index-observed on a third-party subsidy-info page, ~Oct 4, 2026 — not official).

In practice:

  • Track your token day. If you received your token on a Monday, your next one becomes available on the next Monday — the token renews every 7 days.
  • Send TOK to 9771 once your cycle resets to generate the new token (registration first via REG, if you haven’t registered yet).
  • Don’t request multiple tokens in the same cycle — this is flagged as one of the most common mistakes riders make (index-observed, ~Oct 4, 2026).

If your token never arrived, the problem is usually registration or SMS delivery, not the cycle: see petrol token not received and 9771 SMS not working.

Why a second token gets blocked

You cannot generate a second token while one is still active:

  • “A second token cannot be generated until the active token is consumed or expires” (press-reported, Express News video description).
  • This means two things: if you’ve already received this week’s token, the system won’t issue another one — and you must either use the active token at the pump or let it expire before requesting the next one.
  • The exact expiry window of a token is unverified — sources confirm tokens expire, but none of the sources reviewed state the number of days. If your token seems to have vanished, re-check the cycle timing above or see petrol token not received.

How to get your weekly token (recap)

The registration format is: REG [CNIC] [vehicle number] [first English letter of province] [registration date], sent to 9771; once registered, send TOK to 9771 before visiting the pump (press-reported, Gulf News, ~Oct 5, 2026). Full step-by-step: petrol subsidy registration online.

FAQ

How often can I get a 9771 token?

For two- and three-wheelers, every 7 days — a Rs500 token each week, capped at four tokens per month (press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026).

How many litres does the Rs500 token cover?

At Rs386.30/L (effective 17–19 October 2026), about 1.29 litres at full price (arithmetic). The rider’s out-of-pocket on a 2-litre fill would be roughly Rs273 — the figure moves with each daily price revision.

Why can’t I get a second token right after the first?

The system blocks it: a second token cannot be generated until the active token is consumed or expires (press-reported, Express News video description). Wait for your next weekly cycle instead.

Do I still need to buy at least 5 litres?

No. The 5-litre minimum purchase was scrapped in early October (press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026) — you can use the token on any fill amount.

Does the bike need to be registered in my name?

No. The ownership requirement was dropped on Sept 20 — you just need to supply the exact registration date shown on the vehicle documents (press-reported, Al Jazeera, Oct 7, 2026).

When does my next token unlock?

One weekly cycle after your last token — if you got it Monday, the next one unlocks the following Monday. Then send TOK to 9771 (index-observed on a third-party subsidy-info page, ~Oct 4, 2026 — not official).
